Sore neck muscles like one might experience after a long trip or a day at work can often be avoided with the use of a neck pain pillow. Neck pain pillows are designed to keep the neck in proper alignment. This in turn keeps strain off neck muscles and can help prevent sore neck muscles.

While chronic neck pain or severe neck pain usually have an underlying issue such as neck arthritis or cervical disk degeneration, etc. common sore neck muscles are often the result of some activity or conversely, inactivity. For instance, riding on a long trip can bounce the head around and cause sore neck muscles; sitting in the same position looking in an awkward direction (such as watching a movie screen from an angle) for too long can cause a stiff neck which leads to sore neck muscles. Using a neck pain pillow whenever possible, such as a travel neck pillow, will greatly reduce the chances of developing sore neck muscles.

Obviously, there are times when it isn’t feasible to use a neck pain pillow. For instance, an occasional horseback rider is liable to have neck and shoulder pain after even an hour’s ride. During the ride, the body is using muscles in ways it is not used to and so they will become sore. Using regular home remedies for neck pain, such as over-the-counter pain killers, ice therapy and a neck pain pillow can provide neck muscle pain relief.

When possible, use a neck pain pillow to help prevent sore neck muscles. When you can’t avoid sore neck muscles, a neck pain pillow will provide some help for neck pain by keeping the neck in correct alignment.
